Mission
Through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cooperative agreement in 2001, the District of Columbia Department of Health was able to build upon the existing Health Education Outreach Program, to spearhead the development of an asthma strategic plan and to build upon the existing infrastructure to develop an asthma surveillance system.
Program Description
Develop a Strategic Plan to Reduce Morbidity and Mortality by addressing five areas of concern:
1. Surveillance 2. Environmental and Occupational Health 3. Health Education 4. Health Services and Quality Assurance 5. Policy
The strategic plan is the work of the DC CAN Asthma Collaborative, a public/private partnership of DC agencies and community partners all working to implement strategies to reduce the burden of asthma in the District.
